Ubuntu on intel atom z8350 is it possible

Hello
I am thinking of getting a z83v mini pc. It has win10 and says it will run linux but not what linux. It has an intel atom x5 z8350 cpu and I wondered if anyone had ubuntu or similar linux running on one so that I could eventualy get rid of win 10.
Any ideas please.

Howdy.

There are a few web pages out there devoted to getting these types of systems going. Many suffer an odd boot loading issue. I forget the deal but maybe 32 bit loader and 64 bit OS sort of deal. Many of the chipsets included with these are not supported by default and many of the people have fixed that too.

If you can get one major distro running you can usually get another only because of the fact that most of the system is in the kernel so to speak. The kernel 4.11 and up has a number of features for this model.

That gives me a good start, but as a beginner with linux it may be to complicated.

Bay Trail and Cherry Trail (Atom chipsets) are notorious for being buggy under Linux. My experience with recent kernels is they work fairly well as long as you don't use a lot of desktop effects. Forget about playing games with the built-in Intel HD graphics though. I still get lockups after a minute or so of playing Team Fortress 2.
