Ubuntu Install Issue - Please Help!!

I have a problem that is similar to that of dkbg-

Trying to install Ubuntu linux on Windows XP, found that:

1. Got the option of starting either "Windows XP" or "Ubuntu", so chose Ubuntu,

2. Then the Ubuntu logo appears with a scrollbar,

3. A black screen appears with no activity for about 5 seconds, after which there

is a quick (half a sec) flash of error messages that I am not able to read in

detail. All I could catch was:

The words: "ubiquity" and "_gtk.Warning"

4. Then a linux command line screen appears, with the linux prompt, like this:

<Some documentation on Ubuntu about warranty, help, etc.>

To run a command as an administrator (user "root"), use "sudo <command>". See "man

sudo_root" for details.

[ubuntu@ubuntu]*$

I am not able to proceed past this stage.

Any help at the earliest, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Welcome to LQ.

I split your post out and moved it to Ubuntu. Replying to a post from 2005 probably isn't going to yield you much luck for future reference.

I also had a bad copy of Ubuntu so many problems existed in my last attempt....

PS sudo - means run command as root or administrator
