Ubuntu Ibex font display is great in Gnome or KDE but fuzzy for other WMs

Hello linux gurus!
Up at work, I have setup a dual-boot mac-mini with Leopard and Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex. Gnome and KDE both work great in Ubuntu and I have no display issues whatsoever with them. However, I have not been able to figure out why the fonts are fuzzy in every other window manager I try. I like using the Awesome Window Manager with terminus font for the terminal and this setup is nice and crisp on my arch linux installs just not on this one.
Another thing I should mention is that the gdm window seems blurry too. This makes me think that there is something WM-specific happening with Gnome and KDE when they're launched that's fixing the font display issue but that isn't happening with other WMs. I have the fuzzy fonts with dwm, xmonad, wmii, awesome, fluxbox, and xfce.

If it's relevant, here's the output from my lspci:

Code:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03)

03:03.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Agere Systems FW323 (rev 61)
And here's my xorg.conf:

Code:
Section "Device"
	Identifier	"Configured Video Device"
	Option "UseFBDev" "true"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
	Identifier	"Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
	Identifier	"Default Screen"
	Monitor "Configured Monitor"
	Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection
I hope this is enough information. This is my first actual post here so let me know if there's anything else I can do to clarify or expound on this minor issue.
Thx!

That would have little if anything to do with xorg.conf but with font rendering (anti-aliasing etc), which is a function of the desktop environment/window manager.
