Hello. I've recently installed Ubuntu 8.04, and can't get layout switching to work.
Initially I selected russian and english layouts during installation. I was able to switchi layouts using Alt+Shift, but decided to change shortcut. After I've changed shortcut, layout switching stopped working immediately (I was able to toggle keyboard led with key, but layout won't change).
I've tried to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf in the way similar to this:
, and it doesn't work - I can toggle keyboard LED, but layout doesn't switch.
Currently currently language switching work only in login screen, and when Gnome starts I can switch keyboard layouts only by clicking on a language indicator. I've searched the internet, found this bug, but didn't find any solution (althogh this kind of problems must be very common). As I know modifying xorg.conf should be enough to make it work, but it doesn't work for some reason (looks like some program is messing with Xorg settings when Gnome starts - I just can't think about any other explanation). How can this be fixed?

P.S. "AGP GART" errors are not related to language switching.

Update: layout switching apparently works, but it uses Alt+Shift combination that was used during installation (I want to use right "Logo" key). Changing xorg.conf directly, or selecting another combination in GUI doesn't have any effect. What's interesting is that keyboard indicator ("scroll lock" keyboard LED) is turned on/off using keyboard combination specified in xorg.conf, but that combination doesn't switch layouts. Any ideas?
I am probably missing something, but you can set up your maps in System Settings / Keyboard and Mouse.
In my version menu layout differs from what you say. (System->Preferences(?)->Keyboard) And I can add/remove input languages. But I can't change keyboard combination which switches keyboard layouts - system still uses Alt+Shift, no matter what is written in xorg.conf.
Look for this in Preferences. It should be there or System.
I know where is this dialog, how to add keyboard layouts and how it is supposed to work. I've said already, I can add layouts, but I can't change key combinations that switches layouts.
I know where is additional dialog that allow to change keyboard switching combination, but using this dialog has no effect. No matter which checkboxes I select in advanced layout properties dialog (I don't know how it is exactly called in english version. It's a at the right side under the list of used keyboard layouts that summons that dialog, which is just simple representation of all possible options of keyboard section of xorg.conf), system switch layouts only when I press Alt+Shift, even if "Alt+Shift" checkbox is cleared and "Use Right Logo Key" is checked. And system ignores changes in xorg.conf.
