Ubuntu freeze up at load
Greeetings Ladies and Gentlemen(and those in-between),
I am new to Linux and I am trying out Ubuntu 6.10 as my first Linux os. After downloading and burning the iso file to cd,I then rebooted my desk top. When the installer got to "Loading Linux Kernel", it froze up at 57% complete, and them instructed me to reboot. I tried it on my laptop and it froze at 23%.Does any one know what the problem could be. I would appreciate it greatly.
Thanks

Is the system hang trying to read the cd or does it hang on some sort of internal computation task. Ubuntu is generally one of the best linux distros to start off on. I reckon it could be sonething to do with the cd however occacionally glitches with the software occur, perhaps trying a different flavour of an ubunutu installer may provide you with some progress. If you're new to linux then I welcome you to it but I would advise to you to expect some difficulties along way culiminating in a generally positive experience. Good Luck!

Did you check md5sum after downloading? Did you re-check it after burning to disk?

Thanks everyone. I tried downloading and burning on a diffrent machine and burned the cd at a slowerspeed (8x). It burned and loaded perfectly. I have to say that this is the best forum I have ever participated in and I look foward to many more posts.
