ubuntu fails to boot after partition changes

hello
my system wont boot ever since i relocated my linux partition.
at first grub didnt work, but i fixed that, now grub works just fine but my ubuntu wont boot, the job manager stalls, crashes, then im thrown into "ASH" (some recovery shell)

i am running ubuntu 7.04.

the story was that i wanted to resize my ext3 partition. it was at the end of my HD, so i freed up space BEFORE the partition, created a new ext3 partition, copied all my files there, erased my original partition, and resized the new one over it.
like i said, the GRUB broke, i fixed it from a live cd, now i can boot ok, but my linux doesn't work.

no other changes have been done.
how can i fix this?

Not very informative when you're asking for help.
Feisty uses UUID - which will now be wrong for the partition you moved and reformatted.
Change the kernel line in menu.lst, and your /etc/fstab for the partition you moved. Either regen the UUID, or use the old /dev/[hs]da? format.

hey guys - update:

i reconstruced fstab and grub's menu.lst using my partitions UUID and now my linux boots! thanks for the tips!

the only problem is that now xdm wont start my fluxbox!

i get the xdm logon screen, i write my user\pass, the screen blanks out for a sec and returns to the xdm logon screen.

i know i'm not being very informative, but i don't quite know what information you need!
tell me what to fetch guys!
