Ubuntu Enhancemnts

Hey guys, I just downloaded Ubuntu.

I am a newbie and I loved the installation of Ubuntu onto my Virtual PC, and I see that it will be great to install. But before I commit to installing it to my PC, i was wondering what kinda enhancements can I install to get the most out of linux, for instance WINE? I will be duel booting so I guess I should use that. What else should I consider downloading.

PS. Right now im working on getting my Netgear WG111v2 to work in Ubuntu. The thing about that is that I need to download all of the ieee80211 modules and compile them. But to do that I need the linux source, so im working on getting them. I hope this is all worth it.

Wine works (not on all programs, but it's good), I use a netgear router on my computer, If you don't like gnome you can install KDE (hence making it Kubuntu) and for a bunch of programs you can install, look at the Add/Remove option under applications. There is also the synaptic package manager that has lots of things you can get off your CD/the internet. Of course, if you burned the DVD iso for Ubuntu, don't worry about the package manager, everything is on there. What printer do you use?

Ok-just keep away from Lexmark printers, they pretty much don't work on Linux (first hand experience)
