Wine works (not on all programs, but it's good), I use a netgear router on my computer, If you don't like gnome you can install KDE (hence making it Kubuntu) and for a bunch of programs you can install, look at the Add/Remove option under applications. There is also the synaptic package manager that has lots of things you can get off your CD/the internet. Of course, if you burned the DVD iso for Ubuntu, don't worry about the package manager, everything is on there. What printer do you use?
