ubuntu edgy slow down when plugged to ac , on Asus A3A
Ubuntu Edgy full updated, Asus A3A
I had the same problem on Ubuntu Dapper Drake. I have this strange problem , on battery it works perfect. But when plugged to ac booting takes 2 times than normal it waits on Kernel event manager longer. And while running when i unplugged from AC , it works normal. when plugged to AC. Sound on skype is discontinious , and vmware server works a bit slower. strangly when unplugged there is no problem. i searched through net , i found a problem vice verse , that some have problem with unplugged power. but i cant see any similiar problem to mine. if one have idea, please share with me. not a big problem but makes me annoyed. thank you |
Have a look at your BIOS settings for power. If there is nothing abnormal there, then I would look into the power related modules in Ubuntu. Some hardware will scale down CPU speed, usually slower for battery power, to conserve power, so yours seems to be working backwards.

I checked BIOS , it has only two basic options about power management. LCD Power Saving and Battery Calibration.
That seems to be nothing to do about this problem. I checked some power related scripts , but as i don't have much experiance, got nothing all after this work. backward working explains the situation, my Asus is in. Thank you for caring. cheers |
I solved the problem ,
after trying many things, i changed the kernel from generic to 386. now seems to have no problems. thank you. |

I just noticed it with luck. Now i am really happy with my system. good luck. |
thanks a ton for the explanation. i switched to the 386 kernel and everything worked like a charm! now if i could only get my laptop to hibernate... : )
|
nice to hear that it worked.
Hibernate. I tried but it just sometime worked. And booting time is same as getting up from hibernation, so i gave up. But suspend generally works but anyway i dont use it either. If suspend will work %100 i think i'll start using it but hibernation need (expected) to be faster. |
