Is it any kind of weird/special/unique/archaic ps2 mouse, or just your normal design?
Make and model might help too, if you have them.

touchpad.c?
Is it a laptop you are running on? And in that case, does the touchpad work?

Try not using Ubuntu. Libranet 2.8.1 didn't recognize my PS/2 mouse. So I use Mepis and Ubuntu. If a distro recognizes your hardware, that's your distro. Use SuSE or Knoppix.
