Ubuntu and Xubuntu 8.10 updating problem
 

I've installed Ubuntu, Xubuntu and Mythbuntu on two computers with lots of problems!
I've been running Ubuntu for a couple years now, with minimal problems. I was even running one of the Ubuntu 8.10rc versions with no problems.

The main problem is that I can't download updated package lists. It downloads some but not all of the update list in Update Manager, and then gets stuck. This even happened during installation one time so I had to unplug the ethernet cable to get Xubuntu installed! After I cancel there are about 10 failures listed.

On my laptop I have the same problem, except with the added problem of the OS freezing after about 5 minutes of use.

Does anyone know of any such issues? Fixes? I get similar problems with apt.

Have you tried using alternative apt mirrors?

Whenever I get that kind of problem, I switch to another mirror.

Ya, it turns out the canadian Mirrors are really really really bad.
