Helpfull hint....I have a Compaq Presario 1200 laptop, which I cleaned of all M$ O/s, data, etc (Format C: and Format D

. I set the BIOS to CD-ROM start. Ubuntu 6.10 wouldn't boot, nor would Fedora Core 6 or Mandriva 2007.
I reinstalled the Compaq Quickrestore, and Ubuntu 6.10, Mandriva Linex 2007 and Fedora Core 6 still wouldn't boot - the laptop wouldn't recognise any of the CDs. However any M$ formatted disk would run 100% O/K.
I finally found a 2005 version of Ubuntu, and it booted perfectly.

. I now have to upgrade Ubuntu to 6.10.
I now have to erase all the hidden M$ crap which is still residing in the laptop, and upgrade the base memory.
Total elapsed time to get Ubuntu up and running - aprox 42 hours. DO NOT ASK ME WHAT I THINK OF M$!!

Ingeer.
