Ubuntu 9.04 RC to Ubuntu 9.04 Final
Hey everyone,
This may be a silly questions, but I currently have the 9.04 release candidate installed on my machine. I know that the final version is supposed to come out in the next few days. My question is, do I really need to upgrade to that? Or will all of the updates applied in the final be given to me via the update manager? Personally, I don't want to install the final version as I'm perfectly happy where I am now, but I do want all of the updates that come with it.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I am on the exact same situation as you are. The Final version was released today. I think, can't confirm this, that if your system is up-to-date, you are running the final. Again, I am not sure about that either.
Either way, if we need/can upgrade, we should be informed by the Update Manager.
I will wait until tomorrow and Google for this. There will probably be several threads every where about it

Thanks. That was my thinking as well. Hopefully somebody will see this thread and have a definite answer for us.

If there were no changes to the RC version, then yes, you're up-to-date. If there were, it would only be minor bug fixes, anyway- nothing dramatic.
Cheers

Wouldn't any changes to the RC version be sent out via update manager anyways? Or are there some updates that can't be made in that fashion?

Yes, they would. And again, it would only be bug fixes.

Just continue using upgrade manager normally. If you notice your /etc/issue or /etc/lsb-release files you'll see that it already says Jaunty or 9.04. In fact IMO once you upgrade to a new release (even in alpha stage) you don't need to do a dist-upgrade after that until the next release (9.10 in this case).
