Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit Nvidia Geforce 8200 graphics driver problems

Hi,
When I enable the Nvidia accelerated graphics driver 180 or 173, my screen flashes rapidly on boot. Then it stops until I move the mouse to the top of the screen then it starts again. Has anybody had this same problem? Thanks in advance.

I'm running an FX6200 with driver 180 on 32 bit Ubuntu and all is fine. Is this a new install, ergo was it working? Have you just installed the FX8200?

The card is built into the mobo, this was a fresh install, I just recently installed ubuntu 8.04.2 to see if it was any better and when I installed the proprietary driver for my card X broke. Then I tried installing the most recent driver from the nvidia website after completely removing the old drivers and I got an error saying lib something was not installed. I would like to use 3D graphics but all the forums I have seen are no help.

Same issue here with 9.04 on AMD64 with a nVidia GeForce 7300 SE. I applied some updates, and the nvidia / xserver stuff doesn't work any more.

I would like to isolate what broke it, but so far I'm stuck in low resolution mode after trying several changes. Can't play movies..and this is a Mythtv box. :-(

In fairness I did have some non-supported software sources, so I'm not sure exactly what is to blame.
