ubuntu 8X and chkconfig

What is the equivalent to chkconfig using ubuntu. I just installed ubuntu on a laptop and I want to turn off some services. thanks

/etc/init.d/xxxxx stop | start | restart

(ls /etc/init.d to see which services are installed). You can also install BUM to stop / edit services from a GUI.
