Ubuntu 8.04 on encrypted LVM - also hides host name from network?

Using the instructions at http://news.softpedia.com/news/Encry...04-85271.shtml I installed 8.04 using encryption of the whole disk first on a VMWare virtual machine and just now on a physical PC. In both cases the machine gets an IP address from my router. In the case of the encrypted machines I see a log entry on the router such as:
Quote:

May/16/2008 09:42:24 DHCP lease IP 192.168.0.108 to
With non-encrypted machines (physical, virtual, Linux and Windows) I see entries such as:
Quote:

May/16/2008 00:06:25 DHCP lease IP 192.168.0.109 to taylor9
Is there a way I can configure the encrypted machine to share its host name so I can access it on my network? I guess I could assign static IP addresses to the encrypted machines. However, that sort of kills the purpose of DHCP.

TIA,

Ken

p.s. The router is a D-Link DI604 - nothing fancy.

I don't think this has anything to do with disk encryption, which basically just means that the data partitions on the disk are encrypted, and when you boot they're opened (if you know the password) - and when you shut down, they are again closed. Shortly and non-academically said, when the machine is up and running, encrypted partitions "opened", it works just like a non-encrypted machine. That name thing is about something else I guess..or at least I don't think it can be directly caused by disk encryption :)

Thanks b0uncer. I do not see how the encryption of the disk partitions would hide the machine name. I think I will install from the "alternate" CD again - this time without encryption. The use of the alternate CD is the only difference I can think of other than the encryption. My other installs have all been from the "normal" desktop CDs.

Some additional testing and results:

Created VMWare machine using Alternate CD (no encryption) - does not show host name in router log
Created VMWare machine using standard CD - host name shows in router logs
Created physical install using Alternate CD (no encryption) - does not show host name in router log
Created physical install using standard CD (no encryption) - host name shows in router logs

All machines show "Enable Roaming Mode" in network setup
No machines have firewall (firestarter) installed

I have no idea. However, I also have not figured out a convenient way to backup an encrypted/LVM machine so all this is academic for the moment.
