Ubuntu 8,04 host and VMWare client connection problem

I recently installed the free VMWare server 1.06 (Build 91891) under Hardy Heron and the VMTools but I'm having a problem.

Although the Ubuntu 8.04 host and the WIN2000 on the virtual machine can see each other, they can't see the other's shares. There are no error messages going from the host to the virtual machine. When I click on the host icon in Network Neighborhood in the virtual WIN machine, it gives me an error box saying that the host is not accessible. "The network path was not found."

However, all the other machines (my CentOS 5 and its VM WIN client) and the Windows native machines can all see and connect to the Ubuntu host and virtual client and vice versa. I've checked the shares and samba over and over and I'm not seeing anything wrong or missing.

Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks for any help you can provide.

VMWare shares

I didn't think the VMware allowed you to share a folder between the host and guest without using the commercial stuff. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

Apparently you have to set up a Samba share .... or is that what you've done?

Thanks for the feedback.

I don't have this problem with the VMWare running on my CentOS 5 machine. Since the other machines can see the shares on both the Ubuntu host and its VMware client, I figure they're ok.
