Ubuntu 7.10 compiz and vmplayer problem

Hi,

When I use vmplayer 2.0.x with my Ubuntu 7.10 with Compiz enable, I am not able to switch from fullscreen view to windowed view. So, I know that there is problem with compiz, the solution is to disable compiz, but there is a way to use Metacity to reproduce the Compiz effect? Not at all, but a limited set, using Metacity?

Thanks a lot,
MauAGA.

Short answer = no. Which effect did you have in mind?

Windows transparency for example or the animation when the windows are closed or minimized..... the effect when press alt+tab for switch from an application to other....

What is the potential of Metacity to show a more nice windows?

Ciao,
MauAGA

P:S. thanks for the correction..... very useful

Practically nill - that's not what it's for.

You can always choose a different window manager.

Do you have a suggestion?

In your opinion, E16 or E17 is a valid one?

Thanks,

E16 uses lots of pseudo-transparency while E17 uses true-alpha, it doesn't extend to the window borders yet - however, it does drop-shadows nicely. Both are very configurable. E16 is no longer being developed, but it has nice adesklets. Both have stability issues. However - these are desktop shells, not window managers.

No suggestions - look through the repos (synaptic) and have a go.
AFAIK: you wont get the animations or the ring switcher (alt-tab) anywhere. I think KDE does decoration (border) transparency.

Some of them have, other, nice effects.

Ok, thanks for the informations. I came from KDE, but I have found KDE nice to view, but with a very confusing interface. I will prefer E16/E17, I will investigate on them.

Thanks,
MauAGA
