Ubuntu 6.10 wifi issue
I'm currently booting off of a x86_64 live CD, and everything works great. It automatically connects to a wireless network, which is handy, except for one thing... it's not mine, Mine is secured. So, I go into the networking tool in Gnome, And promptly notice that the wifi is apparently unconfigured, and disabled. So, I enable it, enter in my info, and then... no connection. I try disabling the wifi again to see if it'll work, but no luck. Any ideas on how I can connect to my own network? (I haven't actually installed yet, because I want to make sure everything will work before I do that)

I am useing the 64-bit version on a hp zv-5000 laptop, you will probley need to use the NDIS wapper if your Wireless card is a brodcom. you will need to connect to a wired netwrok to download it. i am useing it with mine and have been able to conet to wireless networks with it. there seems to be an issue with Brodcome and Nvidia. it keeps kicking me off the networ. just a heads up

Thanks, It actually uses an Atheros Chipset. I saw the Ndis solution in a few places, but I don't have Nvidia OR Broadcom so...
I've installed it now, and got Beryl and XGL working :D But I'm still having issues with Wifi. |

Wifi on the Atheros Chipsets is generally supported by MadWiFi,... so, you need to install it from the restricted repositories. Also make sure to install WPA_Supplicant and look for some of the GUI Wifi tools in the repositories... |
