Ubuntu 6.1 wigging out

I have a good disc (I checked it) but it won't load. System is an old Intel P3 600Mhz, 128mb ram, and when I try to start the computer from the cd it starts, hangs, first screen comes up, hangs, then the screen goes nuts like the resolution is fried or something, then another screen comes up, shows the window manager, that disappears, then it just hangs. At this point the cd drive is still going nuts but the hard drive light never does a thing, and nothing else happens, I have to reboot. What's up with this? I'm wanting to do a full install but this is what i get. One more question. Is Linux compatible with Comcast? If not maybe I'm glad it hung up. I'd be miffed if i get it installed and can't get online.

Thanks for any help in advance, Rob G

Sorry for this second post but uh, I read one place that I need 128MB RAM and another place 256MB RAM to install this. I also disabled the acpi and used "boot: live acpi=off", still doesn't work. Do you think it's a RAM problem or should I just find a Linux version that doesn't need so much RAM?

Thanks again for any help

Try the alternate install CD. Don't hold me to this, but I think you need 256 MB of RAM to install from Ubuntu's live CD.

Thanks cluelessnewb I got the alternate and everything went fine. It took a bit longer than I had expected but I am now a Linux user (if I qualify for that at this point ) You are right. I did some more reading and 256mb of ram is suggested in other places.

Thanks for the help
