Angry ubuntu 5.10 gives me tty error on restart


i just installed ubuntu today, i used to use linux a while back, and a friend turned me on to ubuntu, so i figured, what the hell. i instaleld it, seemed simple enough, had all the partitions ready for me. installed it, went through ok, installed grub1.5. and on restart, while dual booting with xp pro, i get a tty error message on loading devices, says hda/sda i think? says that it does not exsist, the directory does not exsist.. what am i doing wrong??? any thoughts!!!?!?! please help me out thanks!
