Angry Ubuntu 5.10 and Logitech Quickcam 5000

I am having trouble to get my Logitech Quickcam 5000 to work.
I tried everything. Could also not find much info on the web.
Different video-capturing programs are giving me the same error message:

Sorry, but "/dev/video0" could not be opened:
The device cannot be attached to any controller

Has anyone any idea what I could do, besides taking the cam back to the store?

A quick google brings back this newer model being unsupported at the moment. I've never had much luck getting USB webcams going, but there are a couple of good drivers available for various cams - maybe check out for supported devices or consult the HCL if you have nojoy with your Logitech one.
