Ubuntu 18.10 doesn't hole setting for Display size.

Greetings, I have Ubuntu V18.10 installed in a VMware virtual machine using all the VMware default settings except for memory size and disk size settings.

I'm using a screen size of 1280x768 and I've tried various screen sizes and all act the same way, after trying to reboot the system the reboot stalls and rebooot does not complete. I then have to kill the system using the VMware command to kill off and then try again.

I have a number of Linux Destro's using the same VMware options and all are working just fine except for this Ubuntu release.

All updates have been applied. Any ideas to resolve this issue would be appreciated. Thanks

What's your video hardware, output from
Code:
inxi -Gxx
in an Xterm. Which other resolutions have you tried? 1280x768 is a resolution I've never seen mentioned before. Are you sure it shouldn't be 1280x720, 1280x800 or 1366x768. Maybe 1280x768 is simply not supported by either your display, 18.10 and/or VMware. Most resolutions I've encountered can be seen on http://fm.no-ip.com/PC/std-resolutions.html .

i think those sizes can be chosen via grub, but you should first find out what are valid values.
how? you add the parameter "vga=ask" to your commandline, then it asks youwhich resolution, you can tell it to list all and make a valid choice which you can then later put into /etc/default/grub under
Code:
GRUB_GFXMODE=...
