Ubuntu 16.04 - Apache 2.4 and Mysql password authentication

I have a lamp server configured and I'm using basic .htaccess files for authentication but i'd like to put my already established mysql db to use. I have users and tables configured for authentication but every article I find online just confuses me.

Any idea where to start with this?

Post the link to one of the articles, and specify the first place in the article that confuses you. Maybe someone here can help you with it.

Mysql password authentication has nothing to do with .htaccess files!
it has to be set up with the framework that needs to access the databases, and not the world-facing website!
