ubuntu 12.04 and gnome-panel 'add-to-panel' issue
Hello,
I've recently installed ubuntu 12.04 and I'm using gnome classique (gnome-panel.) Eveything is fine except that I have a problem when using 'add-to-panel' (super-key + alt + right-click): it works with anything but 'indicator-applet-complete', ie *nothing* is added to the panel. I've tried to re-install packages and check configuration files but I couldn't fix this so far. So, has anybody experienced the same issue? Or did I miss something? Any hints are welcome. Thanks. |
Hey Manu
It is actually gnome-fallback which is designed to look like Gnome 2 but it is Gnome 3 and from my understanding is limited to Gnome 3 capabilities.. I'm not sure if you can actually add to much to gnome-fallback (or classic as ubuntu calls it) because Gnome concentrates on Gnome-Shell and Ubuntu concentrates of Unity. I may be wrong but if you are looking for the old Gnome experience I would suggest you read up on MATE and maybe think about giving it a try. |
Thanks k3lt01, I've just added the MATE repo. I will check it out and be back after that.

I've filed a bug report. Anyways, I don't expect a fix soon because, as you mentioned, Ubuntu focus is probably somewhere else.

Did you check out MATE?
|
Yes, and MATE is fine. I must say that, at the moment, I still have several DE available on my box and I haven't yet really made my mind.

I'm sure you'll make a choice sometime. I myself have pretty much stuck with Gnome 3 (Gnome Shell) and MATE although I do use LXDE, XFCE, Fluxbox, and Enlightenment occasionally. I can't get into KDE though.
