ubuntu 11.10 download kernel

Hi All,
I've just my system has upgraded to 11.10 fro 11.04, unfortunately the kernel has now upgraded to 3 which has stopped a piece of .ko controlled hardware working. The manufacturer is not going to support ver 3 (at least not for the foreseeable future). I cannot make the ko as it's reporting a number of compile errors.

Is there a way to downgrade my kernel on 11.10, I used to just change my grub menu (in debian) however this doesn't seem to exist in ubuntu. In boot I can see various kernels but don't know how to add them to grub eg abi-2.6.38-11-generic-pea etc.

You should post the compile errors and maybe tell us what the piece of hardware is?

The hardware is commercial NDA stuff so I can't.

I see... grub should pick up the kernel images in /boot and they should be in your list. Are you sure the files you're seeing in boot aren't kernel config files that haven't been purged?

Try re-running the following as root

Code:
os-prober
update-grub
Failing that roll your own 2.6.3x kernel from kernel.org/git.

Thanks that's what I've done downloaded kernel source, it appears the upgrade from 04 to 10 has deleted old kernel sources
