ubunto boot parameters: want to use megaraid not megaraid_mbox

Hello,

How do I force the kernel on the ubuntu 5.10 installation disk to load the megaraid module and not the megaraid_mbox and megaraid_mm modules? I've been trying google and different boot parameters, but all are unsuccessful.

I've been trying to install ubuntu 5.10, but have been unsuccessful because the kernel on the installation cd fails to load the proper megaraid driver. I have an LSI elite 1600, the megaraid_mbox driver throws and error on the screen stating that it is waiting for 1 command to complete and counts down from 160 seconds. Well in never completes and as a result the os does not see my logical drive. I belive the reasone to this failure is that the elite 1600 is not supported by the megaraid_mbox module. I have had success in the past w/ other distros using the megaraid module.

Other hardware info in case you all think it maybe relevent:
Asus a7m266-d
2x amd athlon 2800+ MP
2GB registered ECC
LSI Logic elite 1600 (4x 9.1 15,000RPM raid 0+1)
WD 120GB special edition
Intel e1000
Nvidia GeForce FX 5700 VE

I did have debian 3.1 successfully installed w/ the exact setup. I've started hearing a lot about ubuntu so I thouht I'd try it out.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I came up w/ an easy enough solution.

Downloaded the Ubuntu 5.04 (the hoary hedgehog) install CD.
Installed Ubuntu 5.04 without a hitch, it used the megaraid module.
Followed the instructions at this link: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BreezyUpgrade
Installed the smp kernel, and rebooted.
My workstation booted and I'm happily setting up my Ubuntu 5.10 workstation.

BTW, it loaded the megaraid_mbox and megaraid_mm modules.
However I'm not getting the errors I was before while trying to use those modules on the Ubuntu 5.10 installation CD.
I'm guessing maybe there has been a kernel update released for ubuntu since the 5.10 release and now?

Hi

Hi dave, possibly you can help me. I am trying to install debian stable (3.1 Sarge) on a dell 1850 server. Dual xeon, raid perc4.

I know it will work with the megaraid_mbox and mm modules because knoppix works and uses them.

How do i install these raid scsi drivers at boot time/install time. Thanks in advance.
