Hello, welcome to LQ,

if the device doesn't work, please post the output of "demsg tail".

What have you done so far? is it an USB-Cardreader? or builtin? if USB you should use the lsusb command instead of lspci.

Could you please insert an SD-card into the reader and post the output of "ls /dev/sd*"

Markus

hey there...first of all, thanks for your help.
been a long time, i haven't been able to access internet from my pc with ubuntu, now i have internet again and i have tried demsg tail.

Code:
polako@polako-VGN-TZ45FN:~$ demsg tail
No command 'demsg' found, did you mean:
Command 'dmesg' from package 'util-linux' (main)
demsg: command not found

i haven't done anything yet, and it's an hardware builtin.
here's the output for "ls /dev/sd/".

Code:
polako@polako-VGN-TZ45FN:~$ ls /dev/sd
ls: cannot access /dev/sd: No such file or directory

Hi,

sorry, I had a typo in my posting above. The name of the command is dmesg.

In the second command, don't forget the asterisk "*", it is
Code:
ls /dev/sd*

Hi,

it seems that the device is not recognized by the system. Did you have an SD-card inserted into the reader? You should try that.

If there's a card inserted, the output of "ls /dev/sd*" should show a device /dev/sdb and /dev/sdb? where ? is any digit.

Are you sure that the SD-reader is working at all? I would suppose that the kernel of Ubuntu 12.04 is recent enough in order to recognize such a device.
