Stupid people construct websites that "only work with IE > 5.5" Etc.

This is nonsense.

The website asks your browser what it is. If it reports something
the website doesn't recognise (Eg Firefox 3.0.8, Linux.) Then it fails and serves you up a stupid page about what browser they "require" you to use.

konqueror (KDE 3.5.x.y's browser) has Settings - Configure Konqueror - Browser ID: Set it to report itself as "MS win something" and "IE-whatever". Then the site will work.

firefox (2.x, but I expect 3.x has it as well) has a plugin called User Agent Switcher which works pretty much the same: it basically lies about what it is (makes FF report itself as IE-something, and running on MS Win), and the page will load correctly.

In either case, complain loudly but politely to the website maintainers, because they don't know how to write good, functional, cross-platform code.

I did this with my bank, and now I no longer need to have my browser lie about what it really is, but until they fixed it up I did have to use these "workarounds"

Pleased that you have the functionality that you need, but I hope you have sent the website an email politely explaining how stupid they are and that they should allow browsers other than IE to be served up browser content. If your browser (FF, Opera, whatever), doesn't handle their content, you'll deal with it, but it should not be for them to say "We are not serving this up because it might not work because you are not running IE".

Please just do it (send them an email): That will give me much more satisfaction than you just clicking the "thumb-up" icon.

Thanks for your follow-up post.
I hope you continue to enjoy linux as much as I do.
