alright, I have a custom built computer. Athlon 64 processo- socket 754. 1 gig of ram, ATI visiontek x1300 video with 512mgb ram. 250 gig sata hardrive and a 19" samsng widescreen syncmaster 906bw.

version of ubuntu- is the most recent downloadable from the ubuntuwebsite- i download the CD version, xi386

1) I Insert cd
2) I shut off, and reboot, choosing to boot first from CD.
3) Ubuntu begins to mount, then main instal screen comes up giving me 5 choices including:
a) start or install
b) check accuracy of disk
c) check hardware
4) I Do "B" first- it chcecks, valid cd
5) then i do "c"- it checks.
6) I select "a"
7) I get to another screen, it begins to mount the software.
8) it gets to a certain point,the screen blinks like happens when its about to start a program. HOWEVER instead of starting to install ubuntu, the signal is lost, and eventually the computer resets itself.

so far i have tried:
1) changing the vga options from 1440x900 too 800x600= this hasnot changed or helped in anyway

so, what would you suggest i do to remedy it?

Try passing these as options when booting. noapic noapci noauto

could you perhaps elaborate-- at what point do i put these in? or where.

When the install disk first boots up, you could just press enter, or let the count down go for it to boot itself, or there should be some option to "Press F11" or F3 or whatever it it. One of them. Then there will be a command line for you to enter those commands.

okay, there is a whole line of code i guess its called, do i delete it all, or only from a section refrenceing boot options?

I tried it both ways, i get to a screen that shows a screens worth of numbers and issues similar to this [17179573.080000]

Tried the code, DOes not solve problem. still resets itself.

Does it do the same with any other distros ? Have you tired a live cd ? Like knoppix, DSL, or puppy ?

it does it with mandriva, and mint. Ive tried a live cd just to play around with linux, but nothing further than that. Open Suse works, but im not finding that to my liking.

When you tried linuxmint, was it the "light" version, or the full version ?

Let me know if you figure it out or have any other thoughts on how to t/s it some more. I seem to be having a similar problem. After waiting about a minute into start/install I do get "ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode" box and it ask me if I need to configure, shut down or continue. If i leave it in low mode it displays this....
*starting deferred execution scheduler atd [ok]
*starting periodic command scheduler crond [ok]
*checking battery state... [ok]
*running local boot scripts (/etc/rc.local) [ok]
