Trouble installing Ubuntu 7.04 alternate on desktop

I searched the forums but didn't come up with anything that would help, so sorry if this has already been covered. I'm a complete Linux newbie.

When I'm trying to install Ubuntu 7.04 Alternate, the install freezes at 85%, saying "Installed brltty-x11" It never errors out or gives me any indication of what its flipping problem is, other than it hates me.

I am installing the alternate because according to Maximum PC, the live CD will not work with computers loaded with Geforce 8800 family graphics cards, which I have. I can attest that the live CD would not boot on my PC.

I also confirmed that my hash was good on the download.

Any help would be REALLY REALLY appreciated, nay, worshipped...I really wanna try Linux but I can't believe the problems I'm having...

I have:

Intel mobo
Core 2 Duo 6600 proc
2 gigs RAM
GeForce 8800 GTS w/ 640 RAM
Logitec G15 keyboard
Logitec Mx518 mouse

Just out of curiosity, have you tested the disk for errors? (Verified its integrity?) I had a similar issue, even though I do not have a GeForce component, and I discovered later that the disk had either become corrupted during the installation, was a bad disk, or the files were not written to it properly. Even though the hashes may match, the disk may be bad or the files not properly written. I solved it through starting over with a good disk (one fresh from a brand new package), and writing with a quite slow write speed.

I am also having this error on a new Core2-Quad, with 4 GB DDr-800. The only answer so far is to wait a long time, to see if it finally comes to life.
