Tried installing .Net framework and ended up breaking Wine. Help !!

Hi,

I`m in a mess here as i think i broke wine and all the apps i had in C/ virtual directory vanished.....

Is there a way to get my original virtual C/ back with apps lost. I went to system settings - advanced - wine , and wine was not there. A window popped up asking if i would like to install it, i said yes. I have version wine 1.2 for my distro of kubuntu 8.04.

I would then like to install the .Net Framework if that`s possible as a program needs this to run.

Assuming .Net is installed does it need to be configured or does it run automatically in the background.

Thanks for your time and help.

If you didn't take a backup copy of your .wine directory I'm not sure there's much you can do. First, you should check to make sure that whatever content you had in your C/ directory is still intact. You can do that by visiting
Code:

~/.wine/drive_c
Also, since Kubuntu 8.04 has reached it's end of life for security/other updates I highly recommend you upgrade your OS to the latest LTS version which would be Kubuntu 12.04.

Thanks for replying . I ran that command and this is what i got back :

reel@ReelBox:~$ ~/.wine/drive_c
bash: /media/hd/home/reel/.wine/drive_c: is a directory
reel@ReelBox:~$

Not a lot , but i did manage to enter C/ drive through menu - wine . i found 3 folders i.e. default folders - Common file, Program files and windows. Programs which had been in Program file where gone.

However, i did keep backups on another drive, so within 20 minutes the programs i had lost had been restored.

I very much would like to get the .net framework installed though. Yes, i know i need to update but 8.04 works very well.

Thanks.
