towards xubuntu 6.10??

Hi,

I'm running xubuntu, and the upgrade tool duly indicates that rel. 6.10 is there ... I launch it, and then it says

No Ubuntu desktop , aborting upgrade

fine, so I go in synaptics, check ubuntu-desktop and see what it does

the first thing, it removes xubuntu tools

and then it installs a humonguous amount of (mostly gnome) stuff

???

What does one do when one wants to stick to xubuntu???

Regards,

Peter

I think the package ubuntu-desktop is necessary for full distro upgrades.

If you're running xubuntu, try installing xubuntu-desktop instead of ubuntu-desktop. It will probably need to install some other things that are in xubuntu by default, but less than in ubuntu-desktop.

Thanks, that did the trick ...

and I upgraded ...

but now my wireless doesn't work anymore:
ndiswrapper 1.22 installed, i think, from synaptics
in /var/log/messages:
ndiswrapper 1.8 does not match loadndiswrapper 1.7 (or the other way around, from memory, I forgot to note it down when rebootin), ideas anybody?

also, ndiswrapper -v returns: utils version 1.7, even though ndiswrapper-utils in synaptics claims version 1.8 is installed???

it totally fails to configure wlan0 or eth1, I tried both, because it cannot seem to get ndiswrapper up and running?????

This does get really discouraging ... another unexpected side effect

Peter
