Totem Movie Player doesn't do anything except shows kaleidoscope colors.

When I try to play a DVD, it complains that there are no input translators.
When I try to play an AVI, it just shows kaleidoscope colors.
When I try to play DV, it just shows kaleidoscope colors.
Anyone know what libs I am missing?

I used Ogle for watching DVDs and mplayer for other things and they
both work.

You need to install libdvdcss to play dvd's. You also need to install win32 codecs to play MS video formats.

I have mplayer installed via apt-get. Doesn't that install the win32 codecs as dependencies?
Mplayer also works just fine with AVI and DV playback, and presumably DVD.
Ogle works for DVD playback. I also have libdvdcss. I have come across this before
with Totem in Debian - that it doesn't do anything.

Does your Totem work?

Don't get me wrong, Ubuntu (Debian) is one of the best working distros I have found this far.

I am not using Debian at the moment but I have never had a problem with Totem when I did. I usually install the win32 codecs manually, so I don't know if installing mplayer automatically installs all necessary codecs.
