totem: Location not found
HI,
if I insert a movie cd/dvd totem starts automatically but echos the error "Location not found". How could I fix that problem? How could I configure mplayer to be my default movie player? Thx! Clementis |
When starting up totem does not recognize url's at all. You need to re-tell what to open: dragging the film to totem or just with the menu.
If you're using KDE, go to konqueror's configuration -> File association and look for video types. Then, you'll need to change every video type, raising mplayer to top. Once done, you'll only need to click on video files to auto-open them with mplayer. |
I'm using xubuntu 8.04.
music player audacious video player mplayer in main menu - settings - removeable drives - entertainment (2. tab) I defined the two commands under audio and video commands: /usr/bin/audacious cdda:// /usr/bin/gmplayer dvd:// audacious starts automatically but don't play any music. I have to press the "Add CD" plugin button to add the cd tracks to the playlist. --> do you know the solution for - CD in --> audacious play Mplayer don't start Do you have any solution to fix these problems? You need to add some info:
What are you using? KDE, gnome...? Which program are you speaking about? konqueror, dolphin, system settings, ...? It's not important at all which [x,k,\0,...]ubuntu you use. |

I answered all that questions in my previous treats!! summary: Insert CD Totem starts error occurs: Location not found I tried to fix that by editing the settings for removeable devices in the main menu (xfce menu). There you can specify a command that should be executed if a cd was inserted. I tried the following commands: totem cdda:// /usr/bin/totem cdda:// /usr/bin/mplayer cdda:// /usr/bin/gmplayer cdda:// /usr/bin/audacious cdda:// /usr/bin/audacious cdda:///dev/scd0/ Because of the error of Totem I installed audacious. Audacious starts but don't plays any music. Instead of playing music audacious opens the file browser where you can search for tracks. I have to cancel that window and press the plugin button "Add CD". Then music starts playing. gmplayer works but is not as nice as audacious. Back to my questions: 1. Why does Totem return the error: Location not found I installed a standard xubuntu 8.04. Listening to music should be standard. Other users should have the same problem I think but didn't find any useful in the web. 2. Audacious should start playing music automatically after inserting a CD. Is that possible at all or do I have to press the plugin button "Add CD" every time. If you miss any further information pls let me know! Clementis |
Fix for the problem
Hi I just solved this problem myself. Thunar handles when CD and DVDs are inserted. Currently Thunar is set to launch totem to play the CD/DVD.
Thunar has the association for audio cds cdda:/ instead of the proper cdda:// and for dvds as dvd:/ instead of dvd:// It is To correct this do the following
|
Or just install the best media player on the planet.. vlc
sudo apt-get install vlc As long as you have libdvdcss installed, it will play the DVD. I've never had any problems like you describe w/ Audacious.. Does Rythmbox play them OK IGF |
VLC is great but...
VLC is a great media player. It is the one I usually use.
The thing is when you put a CD or DVD in a Xubuntu box totem starts up and gives an error. I have always just ignored it. I don't really use totem. The thing is, I wanted to know WHY I was getting the error. As it turns out. It is a problem that has been there for at least a year, if not longer. The least I could do for open source, is post the fix for the problem. |
Hello,
I'm from Brazil, my english is very poor and my knowledge in Linux too. But I was with the same problem, and I tried to do that, and it works better than before, but I can just listen to the first music of the CD. And I can't find the songs in /media/cdrom0 (where it supposed to be) or in Desktop. I'm using Xubuntu 8.04 and Toten to reproduce the songs I can install VLC, but I think that I will not be able to find the songs in the directory anyway, or I will? Thank you very much, Marcelo Avila |
Using VLC instead of Totem
I like VLC better than totem. Totem only seems to play the first track on the CD, or the first "clip" off of a DVD.
Using the instructions above to get to the get to the Multimedia settings for the cd set it to vlc cdda:// and for dvd set it to vlc dvd:// |
Hello,
Thank you very much! I'll try this when I go home. and, where does the cd go??? I can't find it on /media/cdrom or /media/cdrom0 or /dev/cdrom It's a stupid question, but I can't find it. Thank you very much, and I'll try it at home. bye, Marcelo Avila |
