Total Newbie Would Like Wireless Card Help Please

Hi everyone,

I am new to Linux and would very much appreciate some help with my wireless card.

I have installed Ubuntu 6.06 on my Acer Travelmate 2420 laptop; all I can say is "Wow!!" - I'll never go back to Windows!!!!

Now, Ubuntu has recognised my Atheros AR5005G wireless card and I can connect to the net fine, but here is the problem; it seems much slower to download pages than using Windows XP.

I have been advised to diasble IPV6 (via Firefox, typing 'about:config' in the address bar, seaching for 'IPV6', and double-clicking to disable); this has speeded up the connection a bit but it's not as fast as when I connect via Windows.

Is there anything else I can do? I connect to Tiscali UK via a Dynamode R-ADSL C4W-EG wireless router.

Thankyou very much in advance for any help or advice

PS I am very new to Linux, so nothing too technical please Smile

here are some more about:config settings that sould help...
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

welcome to linux :-)

I know what you mean doc, it seemed that way to me when using wireless on Ubuntu. I suspect that it may be compatibility issues; i mean that some Hardware/Software was specifically to run Micro$oft products and services, so forcing Linux onto it wont get the same performance as was originally designed for, just speculating.
