The system "freezes"a few seconds after boot (Ubuntu 5.04 LiveCD)

Nearly five out of six times I run the Ubuntu 5.04 LiveCD, the system just freezes a few seconds after loading the desktop. During the first minute I am able to move the mouse, and click on menus but as soon as the system freezes nothing works.

I used various startup options but none solved the problem.

Any suggestions?

Are you using a laptop?

If so then the command

Code:

linux noapic
at the initial boot prompt may help

Sorry,

can't give you and ideas there beyond seeing if knoppix works, if it does then it is a software fault in ubuntu.

Have fun.....

Every other LiveCD distribution I tried works fine including Ubuntu 4.10.

I guess will try 5.10 and see if it works...

I tried Kubuntu 5.10 and it does not freeze :)
