I've an AMD Athlon 64-bit processor, and due to some problems that I had with my FC5 (which I've described here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi....php?t=486547), I wanted to switch over to Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake. I had Shipit Ubuntu CDs with me, so I tried from that. My system has 256 MB of RAM, and yet it ran so sluggishly (the Live CD I mean) on a drive speed of 52x. The install started, but at the second step (choosing time zone) it just sort of hangs up. Doesn't come with list of choices even after 20 minutes.
What I wanted to know was is there a text-mode install option in the CD that I can initialize during the CD bootup, by using F6>Other Options and then typing something in? I know a Ubuntu Alternate CD exists, but please, I don't want to sit and download, or buy something again. Edgy is coming out late October, so no point blowing away my bandwidth on Dapper now. I just wanted to install it since my FC5 has got a problem, and I need a workaround until October when I switch over to FC6/Ubuntu Edgy.
So, does anyone know how to do a text-mode install from the CD? Stupid indeed of Canonical, if they haven't given that option...
