terminal mail configuration?


i recently got comfortable with terminal konsole,and have a question about the mail command. When i use it, mail is sent but it says its from tidiman07@Desktop, my terminal log on screen! is there a way to change this so it shows my email address as from?

The default configuration for mail is I believe, internal only. Desktop is probably your hostname.

so..., whenever i use terminal to send mail it will show that is from my hostname? that sucks! guess i gtta use thunderbird.

you can set up mail to use your domain. Put your domain in "/etc/mailname" and see what happens. Also, each mail server should have a way to append a hostname/domainname. Postfix has a myhostname and/or mydomain option in /etc/postfix/main.cf.

EDIT:
Here is what I did on my ubuntu breezy desktop. Edited /etc/mailname, putting in my actual domain, then restarted postfix using "sudo /etc/init.d/postfix restart". Then the sent mail shows the domain in /etc/mailname.
