System won't boot after a 'do-release-upgrade' process. $$ REWARD IF YOU HELP ME!
I have an Ubuntu Linux system that is about a year old. at login it was nagging me to do 'do-release-upgrade' so I foolishly did that without knowing fully what it was doing. Anyway... long story short.. it won't boot now. The original system was 12.04 about a year old. It was built with LVM on the disk. I think that is the issue but not sure how to fix it. I can boot from an install CD and go rescue mode and get to the shell. I can mount /dev/sda1 and that is the "/boot" directory I think. when I look at the partitions in fdisk it shows my 40GB partition as 5 and and there is a /dev/sda5 file but cant get it to mount.
any help appreciated. this is a production system and I've been down all day trying to fix it.
this forum won't let me post image of the console... but the main error message looks like "/dev/mapper/web3--vg-root does not exist. Dropping to a shell!"
The Ubuntu site below explains several methods to repair the bootloader. Since you can access only from your installation medium, the best bet is to use the Chroot method explained on the page.

So it will not hurt to follow those directions on reinstalling grub on the mbr to find out if grub is the problem.
Just give it a try and report the results.
You should be able to connect to the internet and log into this forum from the Live Session. You can post the actual cli output, in code tags, here. This is much better than crappy screen shots that few folks can actually read anything from.[COLOR="Silver"]
