For some reason I only have five (5) menu items in the Administration menu list. Those items are Device Manager, Network Tools, Printing, Sytem Log, and System Monitor. Any help will be appreciated.
Rightclick on the Ubuntu logo in the topmost left corner, then left click on edit menus, and system-administration in the left-hand column. All of your options will be in the right-hand column to choose from. Cheers.
Thanks for your interest Thane. I have looked within the Alacarte Menu Editor and have found all items to be highlighted. When I try to revert to former settings, the results are the same. I only have 5 items showing.
If you create a new user account, and try logging in to that, are all the menu icons present?
If so, could just be your gnome settings. If you're willing to lose all your desktop customizations (not the end of the world, really) try this on your normal account:
Somehow things are fixed in regards to the menu. However other problems arose such as "failure to initialize HAL", and "Starting kernel event mangager (failed)". Slowly getting it fixed.
Thanks all
p.s. in the meantime, I have installed Debian. Taking it from the command line, hoping to compare both Distros.
I may have a similar problem to the OP, save that my Admin menu starts with Keyring Manager and goes to Users and Groups. When I right-click on the Ubuntu icon and Edit Menu, there is nothing unselected there.
Is there a list of expected Admin menu entries floating about?
I must let all of you know that I had to replace my Ubuntu with Debian. I now have Debian installed on several computers. It was not easy, but at the same time, it was not that difficult either. I am now staying with Debian. I like it a lot. Each computer has its own little quirks, but with many of them running the same OS, I will solve each in time.
I must say that I did like Ubuntu, but I am now a solid Debian user.
