Synaptic Touchpad on Dell D800
 

Hi everyone,

I just installed Feisty Fawn on my Dell D800 Latitude laptop.
I noticed that I can't configure anything with my touchpad.

I can't disable, can't change the settings and speed, etc. The mouse control panel only affects the little mini stub in the middle of the keyboard.

I should mention I installed the "alternative install," but i just figured that was a different installation method, not a different distro.

Any ideas.

I have a compaq persario m2000 notebook which also have Synaptic touch pad. Recently I also updated to Ubutnu 7.04 and found there is no way to change setting of touchpad.

However, then I found that there is package "qsynaptics" which you can install and then use to configure touch pad.

First make sure that the SHMConfig option is there in the xorg.conf file and then install package by running “sudo apt-get install qsynaptics”.

After that, each user can specify their own settings for various features of the trackpad. For running qsynaptics, type "qsynaptics" in terminal window.

Also, alternate install disk is differ from the point of GUI installation vs Text based installation. It doesn't matter in terms of the installed OS.

Ok, it looks like it worked. I can't change the speed of the touchpad, which is pretty lame, but I was able to turn off tapping which helped out a lot.

I hate having to scroll across the touchpad 5 times get across a 1280x screen.

You should be able to adjust just about everything. I haven't used the GUI tools, but you can do it via xorg.conf, here's an example:

That led me to where I could fully configure the settings for my touchpad. I really appreciate it.
