Synaptic? Programs absent?

Hello,

I fired up Synaptic so I could download Thunderbird, gFTP and a few other programs and they're not there in the list of available programs.
I'm running 5.10. Am I looking in the wrong section? Are the 5.10 repositories not ready yet?
Thank you for any replies:-)

Have you enabled universe and multiverse in apt?

In fact, thunderbird is listed as mozilla-thunderbird in standard package under email, and gftp is under networking

Thank you for your post, Bonzodog!
No I didn't enable universe or multiverse. All of the applications were there once I enabled them. I appreciate your help!
I've got Thunderbird and gFTP now.
