Synaptic Package Manager shows 'java-common' and 'java-gcj-compat' as Installed.
According to websites, Java plugin for Firefox v1.07 is not installed. Synaptic Package Manager shows 'java-common' and 'java-gcj-compat' as Installed. Do some other packages need to be installed via Synaptic PM for Java plugin to be available in Firefox v1.07 ?

I don't think I follow. Websites report that Java is not installed, but suggestion is to install Flash ?
By the way:
PC running Ubuntu v5.1:
root@uschlxws01:# apt-get install flashplayer-mozilla
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package flashplayer-mozilla
