hi,
i believe you are looking for 'kynaptic'. however, last time i checked it out, kubuntu was basically a kde-ization of ubuntu, which means that kynaptic was not as polished as synaptic.
you can always install synaptic from the terminal,
sudo apt-get install synaptic
or if you want to install the whole ubuntu desktop environment as well (that way you can choose gnome / kde from login):
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
hack the planet.

Adept IS Kubuntu's equivalent to Synaptic. What does it tell you when you try to install something?
Don't bother with Kynaptic. It's older and doesn't have as many features as Adept.

Does it use the same apt-get in the background...???

There's a "Manage Repositories" option in the "View" menu.

Firefox is in the main repository it should be in Adept already, if not then it's been disabled some how.
Check hat you have a line like it may have more than "main" in it, but it should be similar, and make sure that it isn't disabled (grey)
As to installing Synaptic: Id you prefer to use it, you can just install it with Adept or
Code:
sudo apt-get install synaptic
