synaptic - how to insist on remote sources
Like the title says.
The Ubuntu 5.10 machine I'm trying to work out is connected via ADSL - whcih works fine now. I need to install some extra things, but don't have access to the CD's / DVD - they guy who installed it took them with him. So I go to Synaptic, mark things to install - and it asks for the CD's / DVD. Great. What to do? (keep in mind though, I'm not used to using Synaptic, or Ubuntu / Debian in general.) |
hi, voly!
you just have to configure....or more likely just uncomment ubuntu's repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list. are there any listed? and also comment out that line concerning CDs. but here's another solution (quicker one) -- go to http://www.ubuntulinux.nl/source-o-matic and use this sources.list generator -- select all repositories you need and paste the result right into your /etc/apt/sources.list. cheers -vlado- |
