Switch to firefox when link is clicked

When I'm reading my email in Thunderbird, and I click on a link, the link does open in firefox, but thunderbird stays the active application. Does anyone know how to change this so it will switch to firefox while it opens the link? (I'm using metacity)

thanks but...

Thanks for the link and help, but this isn't what I was talking about, when I click a link in t-bird firefox does load the url but my computer doesn't switch focus over to firefox if firefox was already running. it just creates a new tab but thunderbird stays the active app.
