Suspend / Hibernate issues after upgrade to Gusty Gibbon

Hi,
I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 7.10 from feisty fawn. The Gusty Gibbon is doing well on my Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. Thanks to these forums, I have even been able to install Compiz-Fusion and get my wireless card working. The multi-media card reader is also functional. The only problem is that the suspend / hibernate functions have become non-functional after the upgrade. I was able to get my laptop to suspend or hibernate and just a key-press would bring it back to life. But not any more. When I choose to suspend or hibernate my laptop, the screen goes blank except for a text-mode cursor (_) at the top - left hand corner of the screen. No amount of coaxing or cajoling brings it back to life. The key board is responsive as pressing the caps-lock key lights up the caps-lock indicator next to the power button. Even the power button remains lighted up. The only alternative left for me is either to keep the power button depressed till the system shuts down or press Alt+SysRq+r+s+i+u+b.
I have tried various solutions as suggested here and elsewhere but none seems to be working.
As already mentioned, I was able to suspend and hibernate and get back perfectly on Feisty Faun.
Any suggestions?

neither of them seem to work.
Here are the contents of /etc/uswsusp.conf -
Quote:
# /etc/uswsusp.conf(8) -- Configuration file for s2disk/s2both
resume device = /dev/sda6
splash = y
compress = y
early writeout = y
image size = 211687260
RSA key file = /etc/uswsusp.key
shutdown method = platform
compute checksum = y
When I use either s2disk or s2both, the screen goes blank and even the power key light goes off and the laptop goes unresponsive.
