Stratitec IC56A dialup modem--help please

So i installed that latest release of Ubuntu. I had my normal video problems with Nvidia 7800GT which seems normal these days. Anyways I am trying to get my modem working. I have no broadband in the area so i have to use this thing. I have used linux in the past when i lived in town but now i live in BFE. Thinsg were so much easier with DSL.

Ubuntu sees my modem and I am able to enter my dialup number and account information, but HOW do i get it to dial?

Your replies are greatly appreciated.

Sorry that I asked you for the modem model -- I did not see your heading. This is a Agere model as shown by:

This modem needs a ltmodem driver. Do you have that driver loaded or do you need to download load it?

Dialup modem

I have a Motorola external modem which has worked with several MDK and Mandriva distros and Ubuntu 5.10 and 6.06. I have the same question (How do you get it to dial). In the previous Ubuntu releases the network config box had a connect button. It's not there in Edgy. The setup part is the same as before. Anyone know how do you get it to dial. Thanks Don

You can use Kppp for your dial-up networking. Here is a website on it:

Dialup modem

Thanks for the reply. I have always used KPPP in the MDK, Mandriva distros. and in Ubuntu 5.10 and 6.06; however, KPPP is KDE and I will have to get online with Ubuntu to install it. I am going to try to find the Ubuntu dialup howto and relearn the command line procedure to invoke PPP. Thanks again. Don
