Strange time problem

I have Ubuntu 6.06 installed using the Gnome GUI on an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop with almost no problems. However, every day (presumably at 12 a.m.) the system clock sets the time ahead by one hour, causing me to have to change the time. Yesterday I had the time set correctly, but now at 10:50 am US Central, my computer says 11:50 am. I apologize for the lack of technical info in this post, but I'm not sure what info would be helpful. If anyone has an idea how t fix this, that would be great.

I went into bios, and the time there was indeed off. So I adjusted it, and rebooted my computer. It didn't have any immediate effect on the time, so I went ahead and set that too. So now I just have to wait until tomorrow to see if that did the trick. When I boot tomorrow, I'll post the results in this thread.

Well, 24 hours latter, and my clock is still doing the same thing. Anyone have any ideas how to fix it?

Are you synching with a net server?

Are you sure you've selected the correct time-zone?

In preferences see whether or not "Use UTC" is checked. Try Unchecking/Checking it accordingly.

I triple-checked the time zone, and it is set correctly. Then I set the clock to use UTC (and reset the time), and set up time server synching. Now only time will tell if my clock is working correctly (pun intended).

Well, I just went and had lunch, and it seems that while I was eating, my laptop jumped back to the future (6:30 p.m. to be exact ). If anyone has an idea of what might be going on, I could really use the help.

I had that problem once and changed the Cmos battery. That fixed it for me. But I was losing time, not jumping ahead.

I've never had your problem but I do one think differently. I tell my system to use local time. It seemed less confusing to me and it does work for me.

If the time in your bios is correct, turn off ntp and see what will happen.
