strange problems after installing lirc in Edgy

I have some problems after installing Lirc in Kubuntu edgy. I installed lirc according to the article at: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=221299

Now when I start my computer my samba shares are not automatically mounted again, although they're still in /etc/fstab. When I do "sudo mount -a" they do get mounted correctly.

Besides that there's another problem. When I start playing a movie using either Kaffeine or Mplayer the system hangs. Kaffeine or Mplayer does start and I start to hear some sound of the movie, but then the system just hangs. The mousepointer does move over the screen, but I can't click anything at that point. The system doesn't respond to the keyboard at that point either.

I did manage to connect to the system using ssh. When I check "top" it shows that xorg is using 99.7% CPU time.
Does someone know what could be wrong here?
